Betty’s Secrets for Windows

The complete desktop edition includes 6,266 recipe references, Qwen3 1.7B local AI, Whisper speech recognition, and Kokoro voices. It runs on 64-bit Intel/AMD Windows 10 or 11, using your normal web browser. Allow approximately 3 GB of disk space and 8 GB of RAM. AI speed depends on your CPU.

Open your kitchen

Use the Betty’s Secrets shortcut in the Start menu or on the desktop. It starts the local services and opens bettys-secrets.localhost:8765. The BS tray icon holds server controls. If an older cookbook is running on the same ports, stop that copy first using its tray controls.

Internet access is needed for source recipe pages, source photographs, ingredient refreshes, and shopping. Local AI and speech models are bundled; no AI subscription, API key, or model download is needed. Recipes remain source references with ingredient previews until refreshed. Full cooking directions open at the official website.

Shopping helper

The installer includes the Chromium shopping extension. Your browser must approve it manually. Open Brave, Chrome, or Edge’s Extensions page, enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the Browser Helper folder beside this guide. Reload the extension if you previously installed an older copy. It opens this app from its toolbar icon and can open the official shopping panel with your ZIP. The official site’s cookie requirements and availability still apply; this installer does not change your browser privacy settings.

Your data

ZIP and kitchen preferences stay in your browser. The app transfers settings from the previous 127.0.0.1 address in that browser on first opening the new address. Recipe caches and logs go in the app’s data folder. Reinstalling preserves that generated data. Uninstall stops this installation’s services and removes its shortcuts and installed program files; it keeps generated recipe caches. No service is exposed to your network, and no automatic Windows startup task is created.

Read the Getting Started guide and Third Party Notices folder in this installation. This independent kitchen companion is not affiliated with Betty Crocker or General Mills. Recipe text and photos retain their owners’ rights. Source photos are linked, not bundled. The bundled voice service is published under GPLv3 or later. This installer is unsigned; it has no purchased publisher signing certificate.

Version 1.0.1

Close the control window with X or choose Exit to stop the cookbook server, voice service, and bundled AI. Minimize keeps everything running in the tray. Recipe photographs retry temporary load failures automatically, with a Retry photo button when needed.
